The Ship Inn, built around 1691, offers visitors the hospitality of a traditional Lakeland pub, with fine food, good beer, cosy surroundings & a ghost story. Set on the edge of the Lakes, in some of the most beautiful fell and estuary landscape in Britain, The Ship is ideally suited to anyone who loves the outdoors and enjoys a drink in the sunshine ….. or by the fire when the lakes are being topped up. We are family friendly and were the first pub in the Furness area to be entirely non-smoking. Our chefs are able to cater for special diets and our excellent range of home cooked meat and vegetarian dishes are known throughout the area.

Our staff includes outdoor pursuits enthusiasts who can advise on local mountain/road biking, fell/road running, canoeing, climbing, ghyll scrambling, parachuting, fishing, fell walking & other activities. Qualified guides & instruction can be organised with prior notice.

The Duddon Sands Hostel is adjacent to the pub, and provides 16 beds. A purpose built self catering facility for families, individuals or groups, with good hot showers, a kitchen/diner, a spacious drying room, warm comfortable beds and a large bike storage shed. Beds cost from £13 pp/pn. For hostel guests who want a break from self-catering there are local Indian and Chinese restaurants who will deliver to the pub and a BBQ is held at the pub every Friday evening. For whole-hostel bookings we can help with catering by prior arrangement.

At The Ship we are able to offer conference / function facilities, with catering and accommodation. The whole pub and hostel can be hired for informal wedding receptions or evening parties.

Finding us is easy as we are on the Cumbrian Coastal train line, and both car and bus routes are easy to follow.

The pub is closed on Mon, Tues and Wed except for private parties by prior arrangement. The hostel remains open every day. Access statement available on request.

Barbecue Hut !!
Situated in the beer garden is our all-weather BBQ. A cosy Scandinavian, purpose-built hut which seats 15-18. The BBQ hut is available to hire for private parties, and hostel guests can hire it at a discounted rate. We barbecue every Friday for our pub and hostel customers.
